The cheapest product is usually low quality, but more expensive doesn’t always mean better.
Wellness uses some people report: antiviral support. This is anecdotal, and there isn't strong clinical evidence that it works for everyone. Zinc plays a critical role in immune function, wound healing, and protein synthesis. Deficiency impairs immune responses and supplementation is most beneficial when deficiency or increased requirements exist.
Form: Zinc picolinate or zinc bisglycinate
Typical dose studied: 15–30 mg/day short-term; avoid > 40 mg/day long-term without supervision
Timing: With food to reduce nausea
Avoid chronic high-dose zinc without monitoring copper status.
Pairs well with:
Long-term, high-dose zinc can deplete copper — pairing may be worth considering — Chronic zinc intake around 50–60 mg/day or more can inhibit copper absorption and cause deficiency over time.
Often combined, but neither requires the other — Both have independent roles; no established absorption dependency between zinc and vitamin C.
Best taken separately from:
Supplemental iron at 25 mg or more, taken at the same time, can reduce zinc absorption — consider taking at different times.
✓ Well-established
Interacts with: Separate from tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones
Already taking it? Consider copper supplementation if using high doses for extended periods -- prolonged high-dose zinc (over ~40 mg/day long-term) can cause copper deficiency.
