What is it? / Overview
Sulforaphane activates the Nrf2 pathway increasing production of the body's own antioxidant and detoxification enzymes rather than acting as a direct antioxidant. Human studies suggest benefits for oxidative stress and metabolic health but evidence for disease prevention remains preliminary.
How is it used? / Administration
Form: Stabilized sulforaphane or glucoraphanin + active myrosinase (broccoli sprout extract)
Typical dose studied: 20–40 mg sulforaphane/day equivalent
Timing: With meals
Fresh broccoli sprouts provide one of the richest natural sources. Products with both glucoraphanin and active myrosinase produce higher sulforaphane levels.
How well does it work? / Evidence
? Emerging / limited evidence
Who should avoid it?
Interacts with: Theoretical CYP enzyme interaction — limited clinical significance
Already taking it? Choose products with active myrosinase or stabilized sulforaphane for reliable bioavailability.
