What is it? / Overview
Bile salts are natural detergents that emulsify dietary fat so lipase can digest it and fat-soluble vitamins can be absorbed. Supplementing them can reduce fatty, greasy stools when the body's own bile-acid pool is depleted (e.g. after ileal resection or gallbladder removal with fat intolerance), but they're not supported for general digestion in people with intact biliary function and can worsen bile-acid-related diarrhea.

Form: Ox bile extract or purified bile salts (conjugated bile acids)
Typical dose studied: Highly individualized -- no standardized OTC dose; taken with fat-containing meals and titrated to stool changes

"Diarrhea" here is used as the closest reachable taxonomy match for bile-acid diarrhea specifically -- ox bile can worsen it. Real evidence is confined to case-level reports in bile-acid-deficiency malabsorption, not general 'detox' or digestion use.
