What is it? / Overview
Gymnemic acids reduce intestinal glucose absorption and stimulate insulin secretion via calcium influx into beta cells; the same receptor-binding mechanism on the tongue transiently suppresses sweet taste, which is the basis for its traditional use with sugar cravings. Meta-analyses find a statistically significant glycemic effect, though authors caution it may be too small to be clinically meaningful on its own.
