Ginger contains bioactive compounds called gingerols and shogaols that help regulate stomach motility and reduce nausea signals. It has some of the strongest evidence among herbal supplements for treating nausea from pregnancy, motion sickness, and surgery.
Form: Standardized ginger root extract (5% gingerols) or ginger root capsules
Typical dose studied: 500–1,500 mg/day in divided doses
Timing: With meals or 30–60 min before travel for motion sickness
Taking with food reduces heartburn risk. Standardized extracts provide more consistent dosing than raw ginger.
