What is it? / Overview
Eggshell membrane supplies collagen and glycosaminoglycans (chondroitin, hyaluronic acid) that are cartilage and synovium components; proposed mechanisms include cartilage support and immunomodulation, reducing inflammatory cytokines and cartilage-degradation markers, with several small trials showing rapid, modest reductions in knee osteoarthritis pain and stiffness.
How is it used? / Administration
Form: Natural eggshell membrane (NEM) or hydrolyzed/water-soluble form (e.g. BiovaFlex) -- contains collagen and glycosaminoglycans
Typical dose studied: 300-500 mg once daily
Timing: Once daily -- symptom improvement is sometimes reported as early as 7-10 days
Derived from eggshell membrane -- the egg-allergy contraindication is worth checking on the label since trace egg protein can remain.
How well does it work? / Evidence
? Emerging / limited evidence
Who should avoid it?
Avoid with: Food Allergies
Already taking it? Reasonable to continue -- consistent small-trial results for pain and stiffness, though several trials are industry-linked and functional-outcome results are less consistent than pain/stiffness results.
